Except there's a difference if the show tries to force a completely bland, superfluous romance with two characters who have zero chemistry (while much more interesting ships already exist for the characters, too) or if the ship doesn't actually gets forced on the viewer and people can decide for themselves whether to ship it or not. Because the gay version wouldn't be actually canon.

Eh, I get what you mean by "force" but the romance in BoY is such a sub-plot that it's just sort of there, on the sidelines. Technically canon, but easily set aside if people aren't into it.

"...or if the ship doesn't actually gets forced on the viewer and people can decide for themselves whether to ship it or not."

Uh... people can always decide whether to ship it or not, surely? That's fandom.

Canon and fanon are two different things.

No one is forced to ship anything.

No but if a ship is canon it's still forced onto the viewer by being canon. You don't have to ship it but that doesn't make it any less canon.

wtf

A ship doesn't get "forced" on viewers by merely existing, what kind of hysterical nonsense is this? Who can force you to ship something you don't want to ship? Do you ship everything, everywhere, because you're just helpless to do otherwise?

God people are so weird.

A canon ship is kinda forced on the viewer, yes. You don't have to actually ship it but it's still canon.

Not in the fandom, but I liked Blood of Youth a lot and I think she was introduced badly, literally chasing Xiao Se around on rooftops and whatnot. Once they settled her character and we got to see her as a person, she was a lot better but I can't blame fandom for not being able to move much past her first impression.

Yeah, that was unfortunate. I think it's part of a bigger problem re: bad writing and badly written female characters in cdramas where they think it's cute to have childishly adversarial relationships between men and women during the development of a romance. I suppose it could be, if done in a more mature and comedic fashion. But that wasn't it.
