Re: Is there anything that's beyond the pale?

Science doesn't tell us what our goals are. If your goal is to eliminate red hair from the population, science can tell us how to do that. If your goal is to create a more peaceful society, science can tell us how to do that, too. Science has already shown that there aren't "inferior" people, but even if something like that could be scientifically proven, science doesn't tell us what to do with those "inferior" people.

Yes, that's precisely the issue. Merely listening to science can't solve these problems, as there's still the matter of what we do with it.

We haven't even gotten to the point where people can be honest with themselves. People are all for the peaceful solution to whatever problem until there are actual sides involved. Too many are still in the zero-sum game us vs them mentality. I experienced this myself when I went to visit family in the southern US. General bitching about how life is getting worse. I mention all the socialist solutions without saying the word socialism and they were alllll on board. Someone actually says the word and everyone expressed their hatred of socialism. Suddenly, striking was unamerican...

People have to be able to recognize their goals, set aside their emotional response to the situation, and recognize how best to achieve them (science). Unfortunately, we're still on step 1.5.
