for me it depends on if a or multiple characters' growth depends on the type of outcome that means they won't stay. i really don't like "we're together forever" unless the story convinced me that it is the better choice for the people involved. if it feels like a diminishment of character that's really sad to me.

but in general, i agree i prefer stories that end with community.
