Re: Hate Christmas coming earlier into stores....

Everything is measured in how many gifts you got or gave and how much money was spent, and you get to feel all the stress that entails especially when you don't *have* any money. Gifts are used as political tools in a lot of families.

Fake charities are out in force to try and grift as much as possible (looking at you, Salvation Army). Every year we get news stories of people being trampled in materialistic frenzies on Black Friday and stores refuse to hire enough people or enact measures to keep their employees (who have no choice but to be there) safe.

The "Christians" sneer at you if you dare acknowledge any other holiday. If you have a family/want to go to family gatherings, your conservative members never bother to mind their manners but god forbid you "start a fight" because they're assholes.

You can't avoid any of it. The trappings of it start even before Halloween now, so you have to deal with the decorations, the music, the ads, etc. for an entire quarter of the year. And during that whole time, while dealing with all of the above, you're gaslit over and over by society that this is the best holiday! The most wonderful time for love and friendship and families and nooo, it's not all about materialism (but go buy gifts, get into debt if you have to, it's how we measure that love)! Doesn't everyone just LOVE Christmas???

If none of that applies to you, then you lucked the fuck out and don't know how privileged you are.

And the music sucks.

I think this is shifting a bit. I know Target didn't actually get the majority of their Christmas stuff even delivered to their stores until maybe a few days before Halloween (at least per the conversation with the Target employee working the self checkout when my cranberry Sprite wouldn't ring up).

Fingers crossed. Christmas needs to be contained to December (at least in the US). We'll all be better for it.
