Careers. Specifically yours.

(Anonymous) 2023-11-14 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I am unemployed once again and doubting my chosen career path. C'est la vie. Which made me curious, what do y'all do? Be as specific or as vague as you like.

Immigration attorney. I love it. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted. It took me a few years to even decide on law school. But my first internship in law school was with an immigration nonprofit, and I loved it so much. It just clicked for me that this was what I wanted to do.

I will say, don't do law school unless you are sure it is what you want. It is really hard, and the bar exam is beyond.

Also it is expensive. Will probably be paying back school loans for the rest of my life.

I am a logistics manager. So I make sure materials get to our production plants and then finished goods get to our customers.

Private educator and caretaker

Aka I'm a nanny. Been at it 20yrs now and kind of stuck, but it's alright as far as careers go. There are definitely worse options.

I’m a domestic animal behavioralist. I hate it. The pets are fine, they’re always fine. It’s the owners who suck and they’re too stupid to understand that they suck. And they think their pets are humans and are too conceited to learn how their animals communicate with them, preferring the imaginary bullshit conversations they dream up in their tiny little brains.
I’m in school to become a wildlife conservationist because I’m desperate for a career change. And I’m desperate to do something that can actually benefit animals. I’d love to get a job that contributes to combatting White Nose Syndrome, the fungus that is decimating bat populations. I volunteer at a national recreation area and get to teach visitors about bats, why they’re so important and how devastating their population decline has been for our ecosystem.

I’m a teacher and I enjoy the actual teaching part ‘cause kids are awesome and I love helping them grow. It’s the bullshit (endless testing, piles of paperwork, pointless meetings, clueless admins, unpaid overtime, impossible demands) that makes me rethink my career.

Graphic designer. I don't really like it. People expecting me to be ✨✨creative✨✨ on a some shitty product is soul-sucking. I do love boring bits though and I don't know what I would want to do.

Dishwasher for the time being, honestly such a fun job and one of my favorite jobs I've done because of how fast paced it is.

Merchandiser for a natural foods brokerage. I honestly really love it and I'm so lucky to have landed this job with this company.

Degree in computer science, doing a shitty internship and trying to get a real job. Not having a good time.

Retail ;.;

When I move in with my brother he says he's going to help me learn skills to get into comptech/IT/cybersecurity type stuff. He's the best <3. My partner is also in that field somewhat so I can get help from them too <3

I work in local government in a European country and honestly I love it. It's badly paid, but I'm not expected to pretend to care about profits, my job is to do things for the community. It's great.

404 - NOT FOUND

lol no but seriously I'm unemployed at the moment.
I was attempting a career in tourism, but then covid happened and I had mental health problems and it's all been stalled since 2020. It sucks.

I also have teaching experience (foreign languages to teenagers and adults), web development experience (front end only but I'm studying back end) and translation experience, so sometimes I just do something online to get by.
But it's certainly not a career.

I don't think I mind too much. I like doing different thinks and I think I'm not really a "career" person

IT work in the medical device field. I want to go into either cybersecurity of data analytics, but right now I'm in training mode. While I can effectively train people, I kinda hate it.

Facilities admin at a shopping centre - I deal with the admin work for the cleaning, security, maintenance, guest services, utilities, management offices and a bit with the centre-owned restaurants, shops, hotel and casino.

Lots of finance work plus a decent helping of HR/payroll - my current crusade is cutting costs through intelligent procurement instead of cutting hours (aka stop buying tea leaves on Amazon, they're a tenth of the price if you go to a wholesaler!!!).

Librarian, but I started that at my early thirties. Graduated with an art degree but realised that I am not a good fit for a freelancer life.

Assistant manager (AKA manager but with a smaller salary) for medical device production at a giant corporation. I like the people I work with (for the most part), I hate how disorganized the place is. Honestly, I feel like I'm great at my job but it's not a chosen profession nor one I have much personal passion for. I'm always looking for ways to do special projects so I can do something fun.

I like my job but I don't love it. I'm not talented nor wealthy enough to be able to chase my lofty creative artsy dreams outside of being a hobbyist.

Software developer. I collect data from manufacturing devices, robots, sensors and the like for analysis and quality control. Sounds super boring but the everyday work is often fun, like trying to find the most elegant solution for a puzzle.
