I have no clue who this character is.

She starts off the adult portion of her movie as a doormat who is doing her best to never stand out or stand up, that is in the text. And she really only steps out of the role for the climax. You cannot blame people for writing her with her actual characterisation. If she is being submissive, then it is IC. She dies basically a couple of hours, in universe, after growing a spine.

The text is that she starts out the film in a labor camp because she kept getting in fights with and stealing shit from Imperials, after spending years with a radical insurgent group. That's hardly "doormat."

Also, someone being submissive in the bedroom does not mean they have to be submissive anywhere else, and I could see a loving, supportive relationship where the character is submissive in the bedroom giving them confidence to stand up for themselves outside of it.

I get why OP might not like her being written as submissive, but the people who write her that way aren't doing anything wrong.

This is one of the things that drives me absolutely crazy about how people talk about this movie and this character. The movie tells you she's full of shit when she says things like, "I have no political opinions" and, "just don't look up," and still you all think she means it and has been living her life that way.

I'll bet none of you think Cassian is a spineless doormat, despite him having his own, "just don't look up" line in 'Andor.'

Bruh what did you want her to do, try to fight the entire Alliance when they brought her to Yavin?

She spends the whole movie basically in the position of, "I'm not doing something just because you told me I should." She needs a good reason to get on board, which is not how someone without a spine acts. Yeah, she goes along with her jailers in order to survive, but that's not doormat behavior, that's smart.

What would you do, anon? Get yourself killed just to prove to someone, somewhere, that you're "brave?"

Regardless of her political opinions or lack thereof, it's quite obvious she's down to argue and push back at the slightest annoyance, so I agree with you (plus we could go deeper and look at her traumas regarding being caught up in other people's decisions and how that's gone for her...)
