ANYTHING

My Hero Academia

(Anonymous) 2023-11-23 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Does it get more serious? Or at least a better balance with comedy and drama?

Re: My Hero Academia

It depends on what your point of comparison is. If you're at the very beginning, then yes, I'd say it becomes more serious than what you get at first. But it never stops being somewhat silly or having comedic moments, some of which work better than others.

Is there a way to receive packages in the US without giving away my real address? I moved away from my family at last, but boy howdy do I not want them getting my new address. I still have a talking relationship with them and they'd be willing to ship me some of my things, but also they are trying to pry info from me I don't want to give at the moment.

Can you afford to rent a PO box?

Re: Ask questions

(Anonymous) 2023-11-23 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
You can get a cheap one for like $6 a month.

OP

(Anonymous) 2023-11-23 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
The issue is that I don't even want to give my family the correct US state. I'm hoping to get some sort of mail forwarding/relay(?) system going on where mail could be sent to a completely different address in a different state and then reshipped to my actual home address.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2023-11-23 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe a friend could forward it for you.

I don't think other options are common, because the USPS and other services don't want to be a party to helping people receive stolen goods or drugs or to avoid taxes.

PO boxes or a package receiving service, both of which cost money. Or if they're cool with it, a friend's place or your place of work. Those are really your only options.

Re: Ask questions

(Anonymous) 2023-11-23 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I had never heard of a package receiving service, so I'll check this out, thank you!

Not from the US but perhaps the US also has mail forwarding? That way you could tell them a former (or just straight up incorrect) address but have all mail addressed to you forwarded from that address to your new one in the system (won't be done to mail addressed to anyone else at that address, don't worry).

I may have uh done this for one of my exes. He thought I still lived in a certain city for years after I moved because hey anything he sent sure got to me, no issues!

Re: Ask questions

(Anonymous) 2023-11-23 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oof, you know what I'm dealing with then, and you have my apologies for going through the same issue. 🫂

Doing a bit of some research, it might be possible to do mail forwarding? Either that, or my options are mail interception, where I'll need the tracking number and to call an agent and ask them to intercept the package before it reaches the incorrect address. I'll have to check this out after Thanksgiving.

Go to a UPS Store or the post office and rent a post office box. Your city/town would be on the address of course but you could rent in another city/town if its possible (if you don't want them knowing what town you're in).

I'd like to have my fake mailing address be for in an incorrect state though. Such is the level of my desperation to remain hidden in the meanwhile.

I'm thinking that maybe I could rent a PO box in a different state, and then also do mail forwarding to get the mail sent from that wrong address to the correct address. I'll have to figure things out once the holidays are over.

For around $5/month, you can rent a PO box at a US Post Office and as long as your family mails your stuff through the post office, large packages will be held behind the counter for you to pick up. I think the shortest term you can rent for is 6 months. Also, some post offices will let you use your PO box number and the post office street address for non USPS delivers (like fedex or amazon or whatever), but it's probably for an additional fee.

Re: Ask questions

(Anonymous) 2023-11-23 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I had no idea about the last part! I used to have a PO box before and trying to receive online deliveries was impossible sometimes. Based on things I've also answered in other posts about mail forwarding/interception, I'll try to look up what I can do about getting a PO box in another state.

Re: Ask questions cat & human viruses?

(Anonymous) 2023-11-23 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sick with some kind of (most likely not covid if 5 negative home tests are accurate) respiratory crud. I had my updated covid shot and flu shot last month. I work with the public and I'm one of the only people still masking at my workplace.

I spent a couple days feverish and headachy, still have a sore throat, and am now producing green goo like I'm in The Exorcist. I threw up once, but that may have been from taking a lot of ibuprofen with nothing in my stomach but tea. I woke up this morning unable to talk at all until I'd guzzled a liter of hot mint tea.

So far, so shitty.

My cat has spent the last few days weak and lethargic, with crusty eyes and no appetite. I bought a bulk box of those gross meat goo squeeze tubes and she's been eating those, got up to get water today, started grooming herself again, used the box she's hiding in as a scratching post...

I hope she'll recover; I was too sick to take her to the vet the last few days (no car, can't drive, would have to carry her) and tomorrow's Thanksgiving. She seems a bit better and I'll call the vet Friday and see about making an appointment, but they're always booked up so it'd probably be for next week.

My question is, aside from covid, what else can cats and people both catch that's respiratory and not, say, salmonella? (I also have chickens.)

My only guess is hantavirus which is rare here but does happen; my cat is indoor only but has caught at least one mouse inside before. Which would suck because there's no cure or treatment. is there anything else it might be, though?

It's unusual, but you can give your cat the common cold or the flu as well as covid. Home covid tests are not particularly accurate when it comes to negative results - they have a very high false negative rate.

AYRT--yeah, I'd just assumed that I'd at least get one positive test in the bunch if I had it. Had it once already and the home tests caught it then. But I guess the tests don't always pick up newer variants. I have a couple old tests that are a different brand; maybe I'll try one.

Ugh, I don't want this to be covid. At least this time I won't have to walk 11 miles for a lab test because I'm using my own sick time (dammit) so I don't need a positive lab test to get paid.

Last time, I had positive home tests but work wouldn't pay me without a lab test and I wasn't about to ask for a ride, take a rideshare, or get on a bus and trolley to go to a testing site when I knew I had covid. So I walked to the nearest testing site the first day I stopped puking everywhere. 6.5 miles each way. Still angry about having to do that.

And I'm not taking public transit again until I've stopped horking green slime everywhere.

My boss let me know no one else called out sick this week, and I was last at work Saturday, so maybe at least I didn't pass whatever this is to my coworkers. Just my cat.

Aside from making sure she eats her meat glop and drinks water and has a warm, soft, dry hidey hole, I can't think what else to do for her.

I may get a warm wet rag tomorrow and clean her up a bit; she's started grooming herself again, but she got pretty grotty squeezing herself into dusty corners and behind the stove before she settled on the new box and clean blanket I'd set up for her. I know cat lungs and kidneys are less resilient than human ones and there's no such thing as a cat safe otc pain med, so as long as she's getting food and fluids idk what a vet could do either.

Don't forget your stomach protectors like Omeprazole.

I do not think it's possible to exchange viruses with your cat, only parasites.

AYRT—I know it's possible for cats to catch covid from people. And I haven't thrown up since Sunday and don't have keep anti-nausea meds around since I rarely need them.

omez isn't for nausea but you do you.

This probably isn't helpful, but I think the covid test was incorrect and that it could both be infecting you and your cat. I've had a number of false negatives when I tried those tests, so that's why I think that.

Hopefully you keep an eye out for your health and your kitty's, and that you feel better soon without incident!
