I like arranged marriage fics too.

And I feel like ABO fics are taking over everything. I wouldn't mind but it's everywhere ToT

Generally ABO doesn't bother me, not my cup of tea, and I will read some from time to time but I wish I could take a break from them a little more.

Just a heads up to the OP and people in this thread using "ABO," people generally prefer the term "Omegaverse" because "abo" is a racial slur in Australia. To avoid making it seem like you're all-caps-ing a slur, it's better to just use "Omegaverse" -- it's as common a term for the fanfic trope and people will know what you mean.

Is it arranged het ABO? Or arranged gay ABO? Cause I find the ABO shit sort of makes sense in the traditional marriage shit of parents wanting their kids to give them grandchildren etc.

In that sense, perhaps there's more ABO in this scenario cause it's easier to write ABO instead of making a universe where two guys/ladies are in smth arranged with the whole acknowledgement of not being able to have (biological) children.

Not to say arranged marriage fics have to be about progeny, but a good chunk of them historically are about that sort of thing. So ehhhh???

I feel like a lot of the time authors use omegaverse tropes as shortcuts to sexual tension - ie you don't have to establish a slow build attraction between your main couple through writing skill, you just have to say something-something-alpha-something-something-omega-something-something-rut/heat/pheremones and the work's done for them.

Now, I don't actually mind omegaverse stuff so I'm not a hater. Though I do prefer omegaverse fics that actually have characterisation that contributes to the romance as well as secondary gender asexual shenanigans. But that is my take on why it's so popular to include in other tropes.
