Sounds about right for modern Trek. Though in its defence, I believe I read somewhere there's a lot of red tape and higher-ups pushing back against queerness in the franchise, so I guess we're at "bland and inoffensive to the point of unpalatable, subtext to the point of non-existence, or nothing at all".

It is nice to have representation, but...Ugh. They don't feel like real people. It's all so bland. Still, better than nothing, I suppose.

Yeah they are pretty bland, but then I found every attempt at romance in Discovery to be as interesting as watching paint dry, so in a hilarious way for me it is equality: all the romances are boring! Lol.
