Thanksgiving debrief

If you celebrated US Thanksgiving today, feel like reporting how it went?

It was great! I didn't get invited over to my friends' houses and my family lives too far away (2000 miles) so I went out to a fancy buffet and ate way too much. The only negative thing was very minor, I noticed I was the only person there eating alone.

That sounds like a lot of fun! I don’t have any local friends/family and didn’t do anything this year, but I’ll definitely go for a personal fancy dinner out next year.

It was a lot more fun than sitting around on my butt at home alone all day.

It was good! It was way too short due to a long drive home, but it was a really good visit.

I cooked cranberry sauce for the first time (among other items), and also cooked a chicken for myself. The fucking idiots upstairs thought that a holiday was a good excuse to be obnoxious as fucking hell and blast their shitty sound system to the point my light fixtures were shaking. (Seriously. Fuck people who do this.) The dinner turned out okay, then I had some nice anxiety attacks over my Secret Santa as well as some event I don't want to go next week, as well as the feeling that any time I take off of work is never long enough. Ugh. Please let next week not fucking royally suck ass, for multiple reasons.

argh. Some of my neighbors do this too and on top of it being too loud they have TERRIBLE taste in music.

You know I realized this year that my family has (maybe) never had cranberry sauce as far as I recall.

We also never had pecan pie which is more of a bummer. I only had pecan pie in my adulthood and it's GOOD

but even my dad thinks its too sweet and he was the bigger sweets liking part of my family (My mom and maternal family don't really DO sugary stuff and dessert. My grandparents were admittedly a bit weird (neurotic for my grandma and rude for my grandad) in things relating to weight)

The meal cooked up fine! I never microwave-steamed carrots or pressure-cooked brown/wild rice before, but they came out fine. So did the stir-fry, though next time I may have the meat counter cut the pieces a bit thinner...

I helped my dad cook some dishes ahead of time, but got (thankfully) non-covid sick before the day itself.

I’m kind of thankful? Was kind of dreading the actual gathering.

Turned out amazing!

I introduced my brothers to The Bear. We're in the middle of the final episode.

Have had the show on all day as we cooked.

My eldest brother is still smoking his brisket lol

Our turkey was dry brined and turned out amazing.

Made a lot of sides.

Green bean casserole with homemade mushroom cream sauce. My first time making. It's OK, likely won't make again in the future.

Tried a new mac and cheese recipe. It's OK. Still trying to find that perfect mac and cheese recipe.

Perfected my mashed potatoes and gravy and they turned out delish!

Tyler Florence's potatoes au gratin recipe is always solid. Took in effort to make the presentation pretty.

I made a bomb pesto with rigatoni noodles.

Another brother made musubi.

My mom made eggrolls and sticky rice. I made the spicy dipping sauce for the eggrolls.

We got pumpkin pie from Costco and Tillamook ice cream.

Awesome Thanksgiving dinner.

It was fine and my family didn't get into any fights or anything but now it's over and for some reason I'm in a very annoyed mood and I think it's because I was putting so much energy into being normal and not fighting with anyone

We talked about random subjects from the structure of the brain, electroshock therapy and also rabies.

We had fun. I think it was brought up how we know a few people who talk about dreading the conversation at Thanksgiving with extended family. My BIL commented that that was because it was extended family, and dad remarked to him that "the most extension we have is you" XD

I had a food coma for a while afterward , and then we had dessert where we debated how we could do Christmas this year, deciding to try limiting money spent on gifts this year since we're all adults now.

All in all it was nice.

I hope I don't sound like I'm bragging. but over the years I've realized our family has a pretty decent peaceful relationship with each other. And yanno what? That's what I'm thankful for. :)

Went well (though it knocked me OUT-- not food coma, I had been unsure if I could make the trip bc of chronic health woes and overextended myself a little on top of not having had enough sleep)!

My family genuinely gets along, only one person who regularly attends was unable to make it, but we had a couple bonus people. My aunt loves hosting and cooking, and sending everyone home with leftovers. We pitched in for the cost, I brought ice cream for the pie but otherwise was able to kick back and not worry about anything while unwell/in pain. We had to head home early when I started kind of fading, but it was well worth it, it was amazing food but also just nice to see everyone after having been unable to travel and visit even nearby family for a long time.
