What fandom had your fave fic

(Anonymous) 2023-11-28 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
What fandom seemed to match up with you with regards to fic, tropes, kinks, etc?

I feel like the last couple of fandoms I've been in haven't really lined up with what I've been looking for so just got me thinking.

Read some great fics in the first couple of years after Rogue One's release. A couple going on missions and fighting together! That's all I want in life, and I got it in spades.

Over time, it's devolved into modern AUs in which there's more soap opera than action. But that's to be expected for a fandom based around a single movie that came out 7 years ago.

2ha. Yeah, I know I should be ashamed.

Scum Villain but only the MBJ/SQH part. I like SQQ well enough, but most people can't write LBH so I usually don't like reading about them. Plus I don't like switching and that's all they seem to write. And I really don't care for any permutation of them with LQQ. I like LBH/ original SQQ though.

Probably MCU. Has a ton of tropes and kinks I love because of the sheer size of the fandom.

Depends on the type of fic.

PWPs: Tolkien, Legend of the Seeker, Star Wars, MCU, Buffy
Long fic: Harry Potter, Star Wars
Wump: MCU, Tolkien
dark fic: Tolkien
AU: Harry Potter, Star Wars
Shippy/sappy without much plot: Tolkien, Doctor Who

MDZS - Arranged Marriage. Identity Porn. CNC. Royalty (of a sorts). Court politics. All of that plus magic - leading to endless time travel, canon-realistic moving between alternate universes, reincarnation, etc etc.

I love it here and I will never leave.

GOT had everything I wanted, sometimes all in one long, plotty, complete fic. I drifted away after s8 but have gone back to read some old faves and a couple fix-it fics because I love fix-it fic in general and GOT is the canon I thought needed them the most.

Banana Fish fandom - solely because it's the only fandom I've ever been in featuring a main character with canon sexual trauma, and there's ENDLESS fics exploring Ash becoming comfortable in his own sexuality again via sexual escapades with Eiji. I'm not in the fandom anymore but sometimes I read fics for reference on how to write for another beloved character of mine from another fandom with similar trauma.

Harry Potter for Dickensian lost orphan tropes. I liked Dickens when I was a kid so it makes sense.
Dresden Files for the Manic Pixie Girl aka Harry Dresden X ML straight out of the 40s romance novels aka Marcone.
Sayuki for the angsty and Sanzo's verbal abuse
Star Gate Atlantis for AUs and whaky wump. I also liked Ruroni Kenshin and House MD for the wump that I read before I started saving fanfics so not sure if it stands up to rereading.
Supernatural for the "Surviving on a Pound a Day" book experience. Poverty and Red Necks. I'm not from US so it's a novelty. I also liked the fics that appeared just at the start of S4 when Castiel first appeared for the slash dynamic of Deity/Mortal. Speaking of which this is the trope to look for in Star Trek The Next Generation in Q/Picard ship.
Deadpool/Spiderman crossovers for the yandere!Deadpool in the slums looking up to SpiderMan.

Teen Wolf

(Anonymous) 2023-11-28 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Teen Wolf really hit my id with a lot of Derek focused fic. Not Dom/Alpha Derek, more "Derek deserves nice things" type of fic.

Also, I haven't reread any in awhile but I remember thinking the smut in SGA was top tier and right up my alley.

I can't remember just now more.
But I am still amused greatly by reddit fic in It fandom. I've spend too much on AITA at my low point so this is really to my taste. I do love good outside POV fics

DK Broster's 1925 novel. The Flight of the Heron. Enemies-to-friends, decent chaps on opposing sides, 1745-6, Jacobite Rising, Scottish setting. Excellently researched, though the author admits one instance of liberties taken with a historical character. It has hurt-comfort, loyalty, questions of honour and love. Wonderful landscapes, whump, everything I love. It was, perhaps, formative for me.

The fanfic (found under 'Jacobite Trilogy' because late in its publishing history it was lumped in a single volume with its less-good sequels) is uniformly excellent, and the fandom is great.

It all took a while to take off, but it was worth the wait.

Ace Attorney in general was that for me for the longest time. The second-closest has been Transformers and Critical Role, tied for second.

What weird eating stuff do you do?

(Anonymous) 2023-11-28 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
When I have rolls and mashed potatoes, I like to make a mashed potato sandwich with one.

A lot of foods I have to eat separate. But thanksgiving foods are eaten together: one bite each of turkey, mashed potatoes, corn caserole, and stuffing.

I eat my food separate (veg first, then meat). I pull burgers and meat pies apart. I also dip my fries in my milkshake.

That's not weird! I do that. Open a roll, insert mashed taters and gravy if you have some. Nice little sandwich.

I like to put my french fries on my burger. I know of only one other person who likes to do that.

I hate eating and so I usually only eat convenience food, but usually healthy stuff. Lots of fruit and raw veggies. Or a spoon of peanut butter. I eat cereal for meals because it’s fast and easy.

I sometimes eat the stick of lollipops.

I feel like there are quite a few, I’m always self-conscious about the way I eat

- mashed potatoes with balsamic vinegar instead of gravy
- oatmeal with cheddar cheese melted in
- cereal: milk in first, then only a handful of cereal so I can finish before it gets soggy, repeat with more cereal
- no meat-cheese combinations in anything unless it’s mozzarella or goat cheese

I don't do this now but when I was about 12 I used to eat ketchup on celery.

When I eat Kit Kat, I break up the individual pieces, then nibble the chocolate off the sides (but not the top and bottom), then gently pry up each wafer layer with my teeth and eat it before moving on to the next layer.

With anything on a plate or in a dish, I will absolutely always start from the very edge and work my way in. This goes for any sides/trimmings too.

If I'm having something potentially super messy like a fajita or falafel at home (where no one can laugh at me), I'll just stick it on a plate with a knife and fork because I hate dropping food everywhere and messy eating in general.

I don't eat ice cream anymore, but when I was little and had like 3-4 spoons left, I would kinda whip it with the spoon until it became a sort of thick gloopy liquid, then eat it. I have no clue why.

I eat the edges of a Reese's peanut butter cup. Then, I pull off what remains of the top, and eat that by itself, before eating the rest.

I first eat the caramel part of a Twix. Then, I use my teeth to get as much chocolate as I can off the cookie, so that I can eat the cookie by itself.

I used to eat sandwiches in a circle.

Oh, you know those cracker sandwiches you can get? Where it's two crackers and then cheese or peanut butter in the middle? I'll take the top cracker off and eat it by itself, then eat the filling, then eat the bottom cracker. When I was younger, I used to take the peanut butter in peanut butter crackers and roll it into a ball. I'd add all the peanut butter from an entire package together, so that at the end I'd have this nice, marble-sized peanut butter ball to bite into.
