The female cast is all fantastic. You have badass action women (Nihuang, Xia Dong, Gong Yu) who are all also extremely intelligent and capable on non-combat fronts as well. You have Banruo, the cunning strategist who essentially is the real power behind the second prince, she's just using him to get what she wants. You have the Empress and Noble Consort Yue, who are both terrible people but who are also extremely clever and manipulative and do women's wrongs in most excellent ways. You have Grand Princess Liyang, who pulls off probably the single ballsiest move in the entire show and ends up being the one who catalyzes the takedown of the Emperor. You have Consort Jing, the low-level consort mother of the third prince (who was actually a doctor before she became a consort) who ends up being one of the first ones to figure out a major secret and then continues to keep it a secret and work from behind the scenes to support the person the secret is about and manages to work her way up to the Emperor's favorite consort through her diplomatic skills and her intelligence.

They all have their own narrative arcs and perhaps most importantly, they're all portrayed as being every bit as competent and capable as the men, even the court ladies who have limited social power.
