Twelve 23 minute episodes resulting in 40,000+ fics?

I'm unfamiliar with the fandom. Is it quality fic?

Not sure yet! I am only on episode 4. I'll be done by tomorrow, lol. With 40k+ fics there will be a few diamonds there. And looks like a lot of smut. 👍

I'd guess so, I haven't seen the show, but just going by the title I'd guess it is about lesbian figureskaters and it is hard to go wrong with that.

Sadly for you, it is about gay figure skaters. :(

not to be that pedantic person, but I think it's more probable that the OP is an English native.
IDK, but from my experience, a lot of non-English languages use "lesbian" or their equivalent way more than "gay" to describe wlw and sapphic love. But YMMV

The characters in the show are gay men, not gay women. So unfortunately, no lesbians.

Then where is the yuri aspect?

Two of the main characters are named Yuri and Yuuri.

That is the name of the main character.

IDK, Inception has about 79 fics posted on AO3 for each minute of runtime but YOI has almost double that with about 154 fics on AO3 for each minute of runtime. Yuri On Ice has a really fucking big fandom.

Maybe there's another movie fandom with more fics for a single movie than Inception?

Inception might have more fic if you could somehow count fic hosted elsewhere, the kink meme and other places on LJ were huge. I'm just wondering though, and idk if YOI has/had a big fic presence off the ao3 site.
