personally, given the style of the original stories (Watson as narrator but feeling more like the actual MC) I always prefer a Holmes story that treats them at least as equal participants in the story. Sort of like how in LOTR, Frodo is technically the protagonist but most of the scenes with him and Sam, Sam's POV makes him the actual MC because of how it's written. I've never seen this movie but if Holmes dominates and Watson fades into the bg as a secondary character, it lacks the vibe of the original and I'm not into it.

I didn't feel like Watson was fading into the background in those movies.
