Even most protests aren't real activism. They're events that people go to in order to tell themselves that they've "done something."

Going to a protest is still better than calling someone on the internet evil for watching a show you don't like. One at worst does nothing, the other at best does nothing.

Oh, for sure. The only thing anyone stands to gain from yelling at people on the Internet for their likes and dislikes is a fleeting sense of their own superiority.
