I love browsing Neocities for just this reason, and once I have a decent enough income I'm going to pay for my server space with them. I love browsing the websites people have designed--some of them are eye-bleedingly bad, but I love it because to me that's what the internet is all about.

It was also a lot easier to navigate in a "wow this is interesting information, but it's from a rando's website on geocities.com and not a .edu or .org or .gov, so...kinda sus." Misinformation still got around but it felt like it was easier to find real sources for things, or at least easier to find reliable websites.
