Oh hey, twin.

The problem is that there are others like this, who latch on and won't let go and are quite happy to do so for years... Only they're stuck in different fandoms to ours so none of us can actually benefit from one another's long-lasting fandom obsessions. Sigh.

WE ARE ALL GUILTY

(...dozens? dozens of us are guilty?)

It doesn't have to be a bad thing though. I enjoyed my lonely experience a few years ago, because I also didn't have to see or experience any toxic things big fandoms (or sometimes even small ones) bring with them. My fandom meant a lot to me, and there were no crazy teenagers in it... What a bliss!

Yup. Sounds familiar. I even leave and come back to fandoms too.

For me, I've come to see it as when every one zigs I zag, and when I try to zig people are zagging.

Not that it happens with every fandom or interest I have but it happens a lot more often than me actually riding fandom through like majority of people in that particular fandom.

What tends to happen is either I like a thing and it seems like no one else is into it until I'm into something else, suddenly everyone is hopping onto an interest I had a year ago but have little interest in now because I found a new hobby.
Or I get into a thing and it's either on its way out so hype is dying out or I show up when everyone else is leaving and so I enjoy it with little to no others around.

I understand. There are things I still love that fandom has forgotten about and the time between Shiny New Thing and Ugh You Still Care About That Old Trash seems to get increasingly short.
