Do you like reading fic *only* about characters that align with your sexuality or other identities?

Some of the comments in the thread to #7 got me curious, because I definitely read fic with characters that do not share my own identities. I pretty much prefer it. But some people up there make it seem like they're baffled by the concept of non-ace people wanting to read about ace characters. So just got me wondering.

I am a genderqueer ace that really only reads m/m with a strong percentage of my bookmarks being porn and kink.

So I guess to answer the question, no, I don't only read what I ID with. And in fact I avoid most ace fic.

*highfive
I am triple a (agender aromantic ace) and I don't read ID fics. I read fics to enjoy romance and sex (and sometimes gen) exactly because I do not want them in my life but there is itch to scratch

not at all. I love slash and I'm a straight woman, I also have no problem reading about lesbians, bi people or anyone else as long as it's IC and well-written.

No? When it comes to PWPs, I tend to mostly read stuff where I'm attracted to at least one of the characters. But beyond that, I'll read any sorts of sexualities or identities. Honestly, mostly what I care about is things being IC.

The majority of the fic i read is m/m. I VERY OCCASIONALLY read m/f or f/f if i like the characters, but I skip the sex bits.

I'm bi, but it doesn't matter to me if the characters I read about are bi or not.
I'm happily not having sex at all right now, but I sill read some porn.

Ace lady. I'll read PG het romance, but I mostly read m/m of whatever rating. No worries of my mind identifying with a female character and then reading about that character having sex.

I’m cishet and fandom would be very boring if that’s all I read. I read anything if it’s characters I like. I ship any and every orientation. The only thing I’m picky about is trans headcanon fics; I need to be sold on the headcanon if it contradicts canon. Like if we know a character’s full backstory. In cases like that, I usually prefer genderbent fic.

I'm gray ace and I often avoid sex in fic and always avoid it in movies. Love based on looks is a turn off to me.

I'm a straight girl that ships mostly m/m with a rare m/f and no f/f.

I'm aroace, and pretty much the only type of shipping fics I won't read are ones where an ace character has sex. I don't find it offensive or anything, reading about someone having sex with someone they definitely aren't sexually attracted to just bores me is all.

Definitely not, I can connect on a personal level to stories where the characters share my identities and experiences so sometimes I seek it out for that reason but on a story level I'm interested in whatever, if it's well written and the author makes it make sense for the characters.

I rarely if ever want to read about straight people but WILL read about m/f couples written as bi...

I don't really ID as bi currently, but it is a label I've tried on when it felt like it might be part of the puzzle for me.

Like, I'm a ace/gay man but I'll read/write about allo lesbians. I'm interested in all facets of the queer experience when it comes to reading fic that has a romance focus/subplot!

I'm mostly interested in the emotional parts of the relationships, so however that shakes out physically is fine with me as long as the relationship doesn't actively hit one of my squicks.
