To each their own. I've only rewatched TROS once and TFA two or three times. Rewatched TLJ a bunch of times. Love it.

+100

I wish I knew why people get so weirdly defensive over The Last Jedi. It boggles the mind. Everyone is fine admitting TFA and TRoS are flawed, but fun, why are we not allowed to admit TLJ is also seriously flawed without being dogpiled by weird nerds?

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. I like em all. They are fun.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
For me, personally, I watched it, enjoyed it, especially what it tried to do to expand the story in a way that I was excited for, and then was immediately hit with a massive wave of people yelling about how much it sucked. And then after TROS seemed to flip around just to cater to the kind of person doing that screaming...I tend not to trust the idea of a measured, fair conversation about it after all of that. I know it's an irrational response on my part, and it's not everyone who disliked it, but it made everything feel so incredibly hostile when I just....liked the movie.

"kind of person"?

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The people who never stop talking about how much it sucked/ruined Star Wars forever/had no redeeming qualities, etc. Hear enough of that and you start expecting the worst about any given conversation on the subject.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Same here.

I have no problem admitting that TLJ is a massively flawed movie!

What I get defensive about it is that I also think there are parts of it that are really fucking good. It is a good movie overall. And it has a battalion of haters.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
There are two good scenes, well, two scenes with good visuals, one of which manages to contribute to the actual theme. And there are Porgs, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean obviously I disagree

I don't know if there's really any point in going through all the same stuff everyone's already gone over a million times but the whole Rey part of the plot is good, the whole Canto Bight part is good, and the throne room scene and the ending are good

And there's also other good stuff scattered around too

I have a knee-jerk reaction to TLJ hate because of how much of it was directed at Rose's actress.

Things I liked and will defend:
1) the heroic sacrifice in the first bit is dramatically affective
2) the force twin scenes are cool
3) I hate the Mystery Box ideology; if anyone stands against the Mystery Box I will stand by their side

But overall like 20% of the movie is good. I think maybe I just don't like Star Wars over all and the little bits I do like are the exception.

But then it swings so far back and TRoS is just loathsome to my sight. I'd key JJA's car if I could. If you want the second movie in a trilogy to go a certain way you should probably WRITE IT DOWN or DO IT YOURSELF or SOMETHING.

I will never rewatch TROS, but I'll rewatch TFA and TLJ occasionally.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
SAME HERE! TLJ is the only one I own on 4K, though.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Same! Partly because TFA wasn't offered in 4k when it came out & I don't feel like re-buying and partly because TLJ deserves it. Gorgeous movie.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
It was a poorly paced mess that flanderized the villains and made two-thirds of the heroes incompetent, and that was before it was rendered completely pointless by RoS. The only things of value you lose by skipping it are Rose Tico and porgs, and the fan-made stuff on youtube and AO3's got you covered with better writing than you ever got from Disney.

This is funny to me because TLJ was all I needed to cut my ties from Disney Star Wars. Once I left the fandom, I realised I only ever liked the original trilogy and was totally one of those TFA fans who only liked it because it was basically a copy of ANH. My Star Wars love is back now that I’m just off doing my own little thing by myself.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Personally I think it's great

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
same, OP, same.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
So do you want an award for that?

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Please Leave.

Too bad no one's set up a drinking game around this anon. Then again, that's probably good news for our livers.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I watch TAF and imagine the rest of the trilogy was more coherent (I have nowhere in particular I wanted it to go, I just wish it all worked together better).

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You couldn't pay me to watch TROS again. I'll happily watch TFA and TLJ though.
