I reckon this will be the general opinion in a few years when people are able to look back with some seperation. The anti-woke trolls were gonna shit on her whatever, and I guess some people feel like you can't have any criticism or you're giving in to them.

But like, it's very clear for anyone who knows enough to seperate acting and writing to see she wasn't the problem here.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people in Doctor Who fandom are just ridiculous. For any given subject in Doctor Who fandom, there's going to be someone who's ridiculous about it.

TBH we've had some pretty ridiculous posters on here, both pro- and anti-Thirteen. It wouldn't be surprising if someone rolls in calling everyone a misogynist for disliking the writing.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Misogyny or transphobia is pretty much the only reason the antiwokes screamed like the fucking babies they are. They should have been shut down harder.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, she is awesome and I am really sad that writing was shitty. Also I was annoyed by thasmin fans or maybe not annoyed but I don't see the appeal there is 0 chemistry.
I hope there is going to be some Big Finish episodes or something with her Doctor.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
As a Thasmin fan, they never should’ve tried to make it canon (half canon?) since they were just gonna half-ass it.

I’m definitely hoping for some Big Finish audios too.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Cheers to that! I think her audios can be delightfully creepy and I am all for this

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly I feel this way about most of the doctor's canon love interests tbh and this is coming from someone who ADORES River. I am okay with the doctor having love interests, it's unlikely they'd go that long without falling for people, but the idea that every one of them has to be a ~once in a life time best amazing most specialist person to them ever~ love interest is just... whatever for me. It's the issue I had with Rose as well as River. It's cool for them to have love/affection/whatever, but it always just seems to go a bit too in the extreme?

(Anonymous) 2023-12-21 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Same!
I loved Rose but then we had show going on how she is one true love. Then we have got fandom going on. And in the end I hated her.
This much romantic emotions annoy me

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Your opinion is 100% correct and you should own it hard because it is so true.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
My gf, who isn't in fandom and doesn't do online discourse in the slightest really liked her as a character but just didn't like the overall writing of the seasons, and several of my non-fandom friends felt the same. So it's not an uncommon sentiment at all held by people who aren't permanently on twitter.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved Thirteen. There were a few episodes where the writing wasn’t bad and she was just awesome. It’s a shame most of her run was marred by crap writing and then Covid. I liked the Flux, but I could see how it would’ve been so much better if they’d gotten a few more episodes.

I’m really glad people enjoyed her despite the flaws in the writing!

I guess I don’t hate or love her, but the discrepancy between my hopes for her run and the reality made it hard to enjoy. I liked her debut and I liked the idea of a trio of companions. And then neither really panned out as I’d hoped.

eeeeeeeee *screaming and pointing* scarf! scarf!! new Doctor Who scarf I wasn't aware of!

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen her season, but I feel you in a way.

I very much gave up during Moffat's run, but season 5 is still my absolute favorite season of the show (+ he wrote some of my favorite episodes before that)... but apparently I'm supposed to hate everything he has ever touched now, otherwise I'm that man's stan. :/

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I am with you on Moffat. I liked some of his stuff. But bad stuff was REALLY BAD. So I still enjoy some of his works in DW but with a bit of sadness

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
(SA)

Yeah, I feel like as soon as I say that I loved some of his stuff, I'll have to defend everything he ever did. Like guys, no. I'm NOT trying to defend him/all of his writing decisions! I just can't hate the things I loved earlier just cause I hated a lot of the later stuff. Let me live.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
For me it's Sherlock. Yeah, it became shit, but I was enjoying first season and I am not going to say that it was always shit. It was fast-paced and fun.

But I am also bewildered by Moffat fans, so it's neither here nor there

Mte about Moffat. I really enjoyed the 12th Doctor's last season with Bill as his companion and I'm always going to have a soft spot for the 11th Doctor - but I absolutely hate Moffat and several of the writing choices during his run. Its annoying when people think if you like one part of a thing, you therefore must love every other aspect of it

I adore Thirteen but just couldn't with the writing. I watched three or four episodes but the writing just didn't grip me at all. So I just watched clips of Thirteen on YouTube instead.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-20 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah - I was actually a bit surprised to see this as a secret because certainly in my circles this is very much the majority opinion.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-20 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
There are certain people who are Chibnall deadenders

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The writing is absolutely atrocious and it sucks because it's not her fault in any way.

The question is really just who's a worse writer, Chibnall or Saward, because both of them effectively fucked up the televised runs of perfectly good Doctors.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Thirteen is great! I don't think the writing for her seasons gave her as much of a chance to shine as it should've, but I don't really think it's the worst either. Like, sure there are a few spectacularly bad bits, but there are some of those scattered throughout the entire show. There are also some really good Thirteenth Doctor stories! (I also have the unpopular opinion that the Timeless Child stuff was like, fine actually. Sorta Cartmel Masterplan vibes, and I for one think that's neat.)
Hopefully she gets the Sixth Doctor treatment, lots of good EU stories and greater appreciation in the future.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn’t mind the Timeless Child stuff, but I wonder if it would’ve been better received if the Master had been the Timeless Child. Sure would explain how they keep dying and coming back.

I also don’t think hers was the worst. The worst for me was Eleven’s run. I loved Eleven and Amy and Rory, but there was so much stuff I didn’t like that I barely rewatch his run.
