i think it matters how much you know coming into it also. like i don't think the nationalism was warranted before 2001; neither the US or Europe is like...covered in glory about their pre-WWII Nazi feelings or you know antisemitism or their entrance into the war itself. You can take it for what it is, a war story focused on soldiers themselves because that's the only way you're going to get anything like feel good out of it. like there's a reason the pacific avoids the end of the war.

the acting is so good though.
