Oh, and let's not forget (with a prime example right up above these comments) "It's all written by straight/cis girls [and that's bad]"

Tbf most of the Gay Fanfic Discourse was done by women about gay men while most gay men were like bro we know we're not bishounen or weeping ukes or whatever, the rest of the world that touches grass knows this, so why is this even a question that occurs to anyone?

So there's some point to be made in that it's yet again a whole lot of women arguing with each other about how to write men.

Which is really funny to me because in my experience the ones writing trans fic... are trans themselves. Like I'm not gonna say that all trans-men in fandom are cool with surprise vaginas in their fic or whatever, some of them will hate it obvs, but some of them will also be fine because trans men aren't a monolith and there's nuance to be had. But lol at anyone on this comm understanding that and instead we've got a bunch of cis people yelling at each other over what is/isn't the correct way to do things.

Personally I'd tag because it seems like the thing others might want to find, but if I was in a fandom where it's kind of just taken as general HC that a character is trans? I'd assume trans-fic more often than not if it isn't tagged, it's not rocket science or even slightly hard to presume what the fic might be like in that case.

Like people can find it annoying or whatever I'm not gonna argue about that, but people are acting like others are somehow forcing them to read these fics as if the close button doesn't exist? Back-space, close the tab, these are all tools to stop reading something you don't like, I don't like kid-fic and have run into surprise!babies before and you know what I did? I closed the tab and moved on with my life. It's easy.

That's very good for you, except we are all different and we all have different experiences. I personally don't like accidentally stumbling into vaginal sex because it's triggering for me and even if it's a commonly accepted headcanon I'd like a tag.

Just stating, I avoid all kind of vaginal sex, but I do not necessarily expect them in an m/m fic if it's not tagged and figuring this out when the author starts describing a vagina oozing with liquids is already enough to get my mind going to places I'd not want it to go.

At this point I am not really sure why people are so up and arms against a simple tag and try to justify just leaving it off.
