Maybe being unreachable is their way to avoid getting hurt by fandom friends again. I've been there and it's rough.

You do not seem emotionally well regulated. Maybe het ahold on that before reaching out to anyone.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-06 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
And maybe you can "het ahold" of your spelling before giving an armchair diagnosis that no one asked for?

Oof hit a nerve

DA

Nah, fam, you're just being a dick.

Ah, good ol' therapy speak. I think there may be merit to your point, but I suspect using something like nonviolent communication may have been more effective.

What, because anon decided to anonymously toss out a message in a bottle, in tone that's far from hysterical, into a space where the other person involved probably isn't that likely to see it? Maybe there's a maelstrom going on in their head, but this secret doesn't seem like strong evidence to support "poor regulation of emotions".

What happened? Maybe you're being too hard on yourself?

(Anonymous) 2024-01-06 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't you. One person is simply not enough to do that if it's not some BNF.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-06 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I almost could have written this, except that the person I drove away probably returned to being active many years ago, I just haven't checked. Keeping a respectful distance and all that. I know how you feel, though.

This secret could practically be written about me. I became close friends with another fan and they hurt me badly. I left the fandom and logged out of all of my accounts. That fandom died over the next year because of canon. I made new accounts a while later and reconnected with a few people I missed. I see my former friend pop up sometimes in general fan spaces, including FS as recently as maybe 6 months ago, but I make sure they can’t discover my identity.

I’ll be honest, it sounds like you are crying for yourself. And you have to accept that you may never be able to make amends with them. You can try reaching out if you’re genuinely sorry, but there’s no guarantee they’ll forgive you or that they’ll let you back into their life.

sometimes the best apology is continued absence, and some things must be endured rather than resolved.

I've got a sorta-maybe-kinda-similar situation (not sure, but some of these words you're saying sure rhyme) and yeah, that sucks on toast. 🥺
