A fair way to get mad at canon in that case would be... well, point out that it was bad taste for canon to have included that conversation about sexual assault only to treat it as a joke. Say it shouldn't have been included at all. It's still not fair to say canon is obligated to address it any further if it would distract from the plot, only came up once, and really was meant to be a one-off joke. It might be nice if canon did (canons have made things that were initially just jokes into more serious lore), but it wouldn't necessarily be a better work if it did. That one conversation can just be a case of bad writing and should be criticized for that.
