I'm not great with scents so I'm always scratching my head trying to figure out what writers mean when they describe a scent. I've been getting into fragrances lately but it's still a struggle. But then I see people's reviews on places like fragrantica and parfumo and then I'm like, "Oh okay people like this do exist". I just assume now everyone in a/b/o verses are just the equivalent of those aficionados (except the betas who are...like me I guess).

At least as a beta nobody knows when you're mad or horny because of your strong bitter sandalwood, petrichor and tangerine scent!

The scent thing is weird to me especially in ABO because, come on, no one’s natural scent is oranges and flowers. We’re animals and if we all had heightened senses of smell we’d smell like animals. no one all sexed up and ready to go smells like oranges and flowers.

In Twilight didn't Bella smell like freesias or some kind of flower like that? I was always puzzled that THIS was the scent the scent Edward found so compelling and wanted to devour. Was he a vampire or a goat?

That would throw me out of a fic so fast! I have this weird autoimmune disorder that gives some people supersmell. I can assure you that most people smell like rancid fast food, sulfur, and burnt sugar. Vegans typically smell like seaweed (most vegan food is made with carrageenan) and homesteaders smell like horse shit.
I’m over simplifying of course but there really are patterns. I can smell if someone has had a drink in the last 48-72 hours and I can smell diabetes. I have to stay far away from anyone who uses Gain detergent or downy unstoppables, and if one of those people were to lay their hand on my arm, it would burn me and their handprint would be there for weeks.

Oh my! I thought asthma was bad enough, I can't imagine having lingering burns from people who use scents.
