I have nothing against 4, but 3, 5 & 7 are my top faves!

I admit it is total childhood bias. He just happens to be the first Doctor I remember watching so it is 100% nostalgia favoritism.

This!

He was my first Doctor, and I will always have a soft spot for him.

Same here. Found Pertwee cold in re-runs and McCoy abrasive, didn't mind Davison.

Haven't really watched his episodes yet, but my favorites are 2 and 6 (also 8, but that's because the movie was my first introduction to Doctor Who as a kid XD)

I’m sorry that the reboot made the show further into something you don’t like. But I’m glad you still have old episodes to go back to.

I've not seen a lot of Five, but have never really liked Four, and Three and Seven are definitely my favourites. So, I feel you, OP.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-19 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Personally I like a lot of Four's episodes but 7 is my favorite and I also love 2 and 3. 5 is also pretty good but through no fault of his own, most of the 5th Doctor TV episodes are very bad.

But setting all that aside, the idea that Tom Baker "started the rot in New Who" is completely baffling to me in nearly every way. Don't know what the commonality or throughline is between Tom Baker and New Who. And just in general, the idea of a vision of Doctor Who that doesn't include the Baker era or the 9th, 10th and 11th Doctor eras is hard to imagine when those are objectively the most popular eras of the show.

Also, as far as fandom goes, I think Whodom DEFINITELY doesn't worship at Tom Baker's altar anymore. Definitely not to the extent they used to.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-19 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
He started it in the sense that Tom, while high on some sort of drug or drunk, would say something wacky about the show, be told no that it was stupid, and then move onto the next thing that occurred to him while drunk and/or high. But, then along comes Moffat and Chibnall, who definitely worshipped at the altar of Baker as kids, and were put in charge of the show, and they started bringing in the things that Baker said while high/drunk/both, and yeah, it turned out to be stupid.

I like him. But 3 is my top favorite Old Who doc, followed by 5 and then 7.
used_songs: (Three wut?)

Same.

He's the only Doctor a lot of us really saw as kids in the US. I don't know what was up with PBS or whatever, but I don't remember another Doctor airing on TV before cable existed. That's probably the reason for a lot of nostalgia.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-19 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Four was the first Doctor I watched back in the day, but Five and Seven are my favorites.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-19 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Four's okay, but I didn't really enjoy his run. It was so hyped up that I guess I was expecting more and it just fell flat for me. Three and Seven are my favorite Classic Doctors.

It's The Scarf.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-19 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
I just don't like Tom Baker; as a customer he was rude to a colleague in the bookshop where I worked. With no justification.

I loved Eight. I thought he was robbed in the special with Hurt, I would have loved loved loved to see more of him instead of a new Doctor that was a one-off new regeneration. He was so alive and hopeful in his movie, and it would have been more impactful to see him as the war-weary doctor before Nine.

I've got the books, though, so I'm not completely bereft.
