almost every pairing (even the ones in the movies) in AOS Trek somehow feel like forced ships tbh. but regardless i do tend to like most of them, chekov/sulu included.

I liked the couple we got to see, but I wasn't sure how their little girl was so confident with Sulu. Surely she'd barely known him? He'd been away for most of her life. Yes holovision, but it's not the same thing as cuddles.

I dunno, Takei was against it. He always said he consciously chose to play Sulu as het, so if a gay actor, and campaigner, says a character of theirs ought to be het, then I think they should have stuck with that.

This is an AU, though. Main universe Sulu can still be straight. Just means that something in this universe that was different meant this Sulu was gay.
