Do you like the taste? Then = good.
if not, then = not good.

It is that simple. For me, no gin will ever be a good cocktail, because I hate the taste of gin, no matter what "botanicals" they flavor it with. On the other hand, a whisky, drambuie, honey and irn bru cocktail, as much as it sickens others, is good for me. I call it a Glasgow Corpse Reviver.
