Honestly I find the whole thing terribly performative. People are yelling about 'general strike for Gaza!' but then adding 'unless you can't skip work or school of course.' Like... it's not really a strike then. It's the people who can take a sick day took a sick day. I saw someone posting that strikes work because what about the Montgomery bus boycotts and such, and those worked because people put their lives and livelihoods on the line (and because it was localized and they were actively impeding the thing they wanted to protest). Sorry, you didn't stand up bravely for Palestine by taking a sick day that your boss agreed to and calling it a strike. And I'm not saying that people should give up their livelihood for Palestine, just that lets not act as if this is a big huge movement of standing up against The Man.

The people who are saying this sort of thing literally do not know what a general strike is. They literally do not understand the meaning of the words they're using.

People also striked back then for a lot longer than anyone does now, or they 'boycott' brands/companies they already weren't buying things from. Like it's not a boycott to not buy Starbucks if you've never bought from Starbucks before.
