(Anonymous) 2024-01-23 11:46 am (UTC)(link)1. threatening to fire Darrin/actually firing him (on a pretty much once an episode basis) because an unhappy client needs a scapegoat
2. emotionally manipulating Darrin by pulling the "how can you do this to your best friend" card (which Darrin almost never pulls back despite how badly he's treated)
3. regularly stealing credit for Darrin's ideas or telling an unhappy client that Larry's own idea was Darrin's;
4. expressing skepticism on the rare occasion that Darrin tries to take a sick day or forcing Darrin to cancel plans (including family vacations) for fairly minor work things (like a casual dinner with a client).
There's even a case for a sexual harassment suit given that on at least 3-4 occasions Larry has forced (on pain of firing) Darrin to spend time alone with flirtatious single clients (at least one of whom was Darrin's ex specifically) and even flirt back if "necessary" to seal the deal, even though Darrin makes it clear that this makes both him and Samantha uncomfortable.
Like for some reason, I can accept the show as a product of its time when it comes to the less-healthy aspects of Darrin and Samantha's relationship and (to a lesser extent) Endora's treatment of her son-in-law. But when the toxic boss is toxic-bossing, I just can't ignore it.
