So...are you familiar with the concept of character development?

Specifically, is it that unthinkable that a character introduced as having no personal freedoms (it hacked its governor module, but the command module still works and the company systems are still observing it constantly), who was literally mass-produced to specification in a factory to be a rentable piece of equipment, just miiiiight grow from that starting position over the course of the story? Like, the ending especially makes a pretty firm point about how it feels about itself.
