full disclosure: i'm an r34 site enjoyer. I get uncomfortable looking at live porn bc for my brain .. idk it feels like I'm watching something illegal or something and it.. ugh bothers me. I prefer drawn stuff where no matter what happens no actual people are involved. Is this a moral standpoint thing I think people should follow/adhere to? LOL fuck no. it's just my stupid fucking hangup what makes ME comfortable.

the vent: as much as I've seen some truly sweet fun hot and beautiful pieces... I'm noticing a trend in too many fandoms to count of pieces having characters who are basically clearly overwhelmingly GAY (Amity from Owl House , Vaggie of Hazbin etc) being with straight characters , and some rather nasty pics viciously breaking up/cucking(I hate that word but..) a f/f or m/m couple with someone of the opposite sex.

It's really pissing me off an my s.o. as well (we tend to give each other heads up when it happens and often vent about it) Like some people have told me "it's just a kink, don't take it so seriously" but.. I just.. i can't push away the feeling in the world we live in currently that there IS homophobia as part of it. And seeing homophobia on my cartoon porn sites so often just.. idk it angers me.

Sometimes it makes me wanna spite draw characters who are in canonically straight pairings with same sex OCs or crossover characters (not in spiteful situations like the ones I mention, the spite is more.. personal for me) . IDK i'm just sick of seeing homophobia and then having some people around me tell me to just brush it off. I deal with it everywhere I don't want it here.

Unless it's only gay characters being drawn with characters who don't match their orientation, I don't think it's homophobia. Spite drawing straight characters in gay porn wouldn't really do anything because that's already normal; it's the majority of slash and femslash. People are just going to lewd whatever characters they want to jerk off to, and guys tend to do that by making the other character a self-insert i.e. another guy. Add to that the fact that guys who do this don't tend to even know much lore about the characters. They might not even know Amity and Veggie are lesbians. At most they might know they have girlfriends, but in Amity's case at least, her specifically being a lesbian is completely Word of God. It's not even going to cross the mind if the average straight male R34 artist to look at creator interviews.

Okay, I was just about to ask because I didn't remember that ever coming up in the show itself. So yeah, I'd forgive someone not knowing that because I've watched the entire show and I didn't know that either.

Fandom STILL isn't activism.

NAYRT
it took me a long time to really understand this feeling I had, and to keep it within myself

Whatever I feel, it's about me, not the other fandomers

It's been a hard pill to swallow and sometimes I still catch myself wanting to "call out" people. But I know that whatever I'm feeling it's my struggle and maybe I'm projecting.

Go where whatever I'm feeling goes can be addressed in a way I can do it safely (vent to a friend, find something else to occupy my time, write in my diary what's on my mind, create my own art to counteract what bothers me, etc) instead of getting on a soap box and making it into A Thing where I'm shading/shaming others who haven't personally done anything to me.

I mean, tbh, not watching live porn probably is a moral standpoint that people should adhere to. The amount of abuse that happens in porn, especially now that MindGeek has made it nearly impossible for anyone to make money off of it, makes it so that you often can't tell whether the people you're watching were treated well and actually wanted to do what they're doing.

I don't think you're wrong to be annoyed. A feeling is just a feeling, and I think when something in fiction reminds you of something in real life way too much, it can be frustrating and maybe even triggering.

I don't recommend revenge/spite fanwork. Even if you annoy someone, it'll be temporary, and you won't "change the world" of fandom or even the world itself. In addition, you'll waste a lot of good energy on acting spiteful. (Again, I'm not knocking feelings, it's the actions I warn against............. if you wonder why I have the nerve to say such things, well, I've dealt with something similar in fanfiction, so I'm probably up my own ass and projecting. But I did find it was a waste of my energy and no one really cared either way.)

I do, however, recommend not talking to those who are repeatedly dismissive. And if you draw, just focus on the stuff you enjoy. Even if the world makes you sad, you should be able to find something happy/satisfying in fandom... kink, vanilla, gay, straight or otherwise.

I absolutely 100% get you, Anon. I'm so happy you have a SO that you can vent and talk about these things with. But yeah, all this stuff piles up and there's always one thing that makes you crack and feel like "ENOUGH ALREADY"
