I've seen European badgers once. We stood in a bluebell wood waiting for them to come out of their sett. I'd got bored and was glancing round and the group leader held his hand up and there was a badger about 20 feet away looking straight at us. I could just see the mask of its face. Other badgers came out and ambled around. They were ranger rather than cuddly, or so I thought; but the sight of them in that spring wood among the bluebells has stayed with me all the years since.
