Re: Favorite Fan Theories

Indoctrination theory is weaksauce shit that people make to cope because it justifies picking Destruction and fulfilling their revenge fantasies, IMO, and because it's the only ending their Walking Jesus Metaphor gets to live. The endings aren't great, but they're a far cry better than the original ending with the bound Reaper Queen you ascend to join or whatever.

Also, the writers have shot down Rinoa = Ultimecia as not being the intent. It was NEVER the intent. Just like "Squall is dead" was never the intent. Like hell can I find the interview, though, because it's buried under everyone and their dog's take on this theory.

lmao, settle down anon, I'm aware these are fan theories, not canon

That being said, while I know there's been backlash against IT ever since the Extended Cut fixed the worst plotholes of the original ending(s) and offered more emotional closure,

because it's the only ending their Walking Jesus Metaphor gets to live

IT has been around since before Destruction was changed to suggest that Shepard lives.

As someone who has only played the OG endings and not the EC, and chose Synthesis even when I did, revenge and Shepard's survival have literally nothing to do with it. It's just a fun theory, one that ties together some lingering questions from the series, and was vastly preferable to just how utterly shit the endings were (are?). You couldn't be more wrong re: why people enjoy it.

And yes, I know they've said it isn't canon, that doesn't mean it wasn't at some point in the writing process.
