I’ve never heard of this and had to look it up. It sounds really interesting but it’s on Apple TV so I’ll never see it. I will definitely be checking out the books, though!

Thank you for that link! I've seen Slow Horses, but FMovies streams shows I haven't been able to watch in years!

I haven't watched the whole run, but season one was pretty decent! I love Saskia Reeves as Catherine and I do like the character of Jackson Lamb, but honestly, the whole cast of characters are good and very compelling to watch.

Ooooo, Saskia Reeves. I loved her in the Dune miniseries.

Agreed! The cast is amazing.

I love the entire freaking cast. But if all you see of Oldman's performance is grumpy, disgusting, and snarky, I have to wonder if you weren't really watching him, and you were just watching the others of the cast.

Every season, it has taken me two episodes to get over how disgusting the Jackson Lamb character is since his grooming habits (or non-habits) are awful. But he isn't just disgusting, grumpy and snarky, Oldman also manages to convey that he is a believable sly old fox and a highly intelligent threat to those that threaten him or his people. That is his mastery as an actor. Lamb could just be a complete wash-out with nothing to contribute, but he isn't.

The whole cast is amazing. Even "Spider" Webb, the slimy bastard, is amazing and so well played. I love to despise him.

OP

I was honestly over enthusiastic in dismissing the complexity of his role.

It’s not as simple as I made it out to be. But he does get many of the lines that have a high likelihood of being considered “quotable” or “iconic”. And Lamb gets many scenes of triumph.

And all of that gets lots of kudos from fans, as far as I’ve seen.

In contrast, the rest of the cast has managed to really nail their characters’ complexity with the material they’ve been given. And no one in my circles is appreciating that because the characters aren’t quite as triumphant or quotable.
