I think many stores are more skittish of over-buying thanks to typical buying patterns being thwarted in 2020-2021. Now purchasing departments appear to be putting in smaller orders for many merchandise categories, which impacts post-holiday sales.

(Strangely, I have done alright on post-holiday sales in the last few years, but I think I've been lucky.)
