this elmo thing is so random to me. the cryptocurrency shit awhile back still pisses me off far more tbh. |=(

LOL

(but fuck cryptocurrency)

I was a bit surprise at the reaction about what he did to Elmo, but yeah fuck him for the crypto tho.

I'm so befuddled by all of this.

I'm weirded out by people freaking out over Elmo (golly Wil Wheaton, Larry David is not the avatar of your father, and you are middle aged, surely you can understand that Elmo is fake and not an actual child).

I'm MEH on cryptocurrency. Like, whatever, it's dumb, but spend your money how you like.

I just don't think these are reasons to be like, "I will now hate this person forever." The bar for what counts as Irredeemable Sin seems to be getting lower and lower, and I'm not about that.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-21 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
There's also a real person operating Elmo who probably didn't sign up for being part of Larry David's shtick, though.

Also, Elmo is a custom-made puppet. The puppet may not have feelings, but neither does a guitar and you shouldn't grab someone else's guitar while they're performing either. Even if you're really bored and don't like guitars.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-21 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
You probably should grab someone's guitar if you're doing a bit with the owner of the guitar, regardless whether people with a tenuous grasp on reality and proportionality might overreact to it.

Why are you assuming it was a bit when literally everyone involved has said it was unplanned? Reddit brain?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-21 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
It's a bit. There's no real reason to assume that the performer didn't know ahead of time what was going to happen.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-21 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Has it been reported that this was a bit, or are you just assuming that it was?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-21 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn’t a bit. Larry just got bored while waiting backstage.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-21 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Gee Willikers, it sure is wacky for someone to think that attacking a children's show performer during a mental wellness segment aimed at vulnerable children and their families is fucked up on several levels!

(Anonymous) 2024-02-21 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
My goodness, it sure is weird to think that children are sitting around watching the Today Show and that a puppet is the same as a person.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-21 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
You really don’t think that the same kids who are sitting around at home watching Sesame Street with their caregivers might have watched a daytime show segment deliberately aimed at them and featuring a character that they like? Huh.

You probably should have watched more educational programming as a child. Your formal schooling seems to have failed you.

Elmo can move and speak because he's being operated by an actual person. He's not real but Kevin Clash is.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-21 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Also, dollars to donuts, any kids who saw it probably thought it was weird or funny, because kids tend to think OTT stuff like that is funny. It's adults projecting their issues onto it that are freaking out, which is what's crazy about the whole thing. It's just another instance of "won't someone think of the children?" The children have not been harmed.
