Not just more media than in the 60s, also more channels! I don't know the situation in the US but in my country, there were two, maybe there channels you could get on TV. That's if you even HAD a TV. My mom's family would have neighbors over on the weekend to watch the news and whatever played afterwards as they were the only household in the neighborhood to have a TV.
