I would recommend Resinsoul-- they're less expensive than many recasts, and while they don't have great photos of some of their older sculpts, the dolls are really charming and versatile. I know there are other less expensive companies, I just don't have personal experience with them. My Resinsoul girl stood really well right out of the box (though her arms could probably have done with a restringing), and once she was painted up, she got a lot of attention at meets/cons.

(As a side note--Recasts aren't mainly controversial bc of a lack of quality control-- it's the kind of thing that artists stop selling because of. It's not really the same as buying a bootleg of something from a large company.)

Thanks! I really know zilch about the hobby. It's just that they look so pretty and I have minimal artistic skills so I'd hate to spend a lot of money and then mess one up. :(
