After a point, isn't personality part of the competition? I mean, musical talent is good, but there's more to making it as a musical act than just talent. Though I will say, I think that often gets misjudged anyway, so maybe you're right.

Yeah, maybe there’s sort of an argument for shows where people are competing to be entertainers. It’s not necessarily about just the technical skill but about showmanship, which is hard to judge blind.

But I think I agree with the secret regarding food shows. And probably other craft-type shows like pottery or glasswork or whatever.
