I honestly prefer EoE, as I feel it kept more with the tone of the rest of the show. However, it's awesome that you feel so inspired by the original, and you should keep that canon if you prefer it.

I've always figured part of it comes down to a power dynamic. I'm lesbian, and while I have no interest at all in m/m slash, I'm also enormously picky about the het or femslash I read, because so much of it repeats sucky gender roles.

I mostly read femslash now, but find it very tough sometimes to find anything that involves the kind of women I want to read about. I guess that's attributable to both the fact that there's so much less f/f than het or m/m, and also because there's so much less diversity in female relationships in canons to begin with. I've often thought that m/m would be great for me in terms of finding power dynamics I like if only I could get past my cranky irritation about always making everything all about teh menz. :S

And OP, even if you got your wish, odds are your flist would just talk about her that much more, because if you haven't noticed when a celeb dies, you hear about them even more than you did before. Either way, you're going to be hearing about her a lot. Got a problem with it? Get over it or get new friends.

Don't worry: End contains a happy ending, just like the series, although it as not as wonderfully pulled off. I'm sorry that it tainted the experience for you, but I am glad that Evangelion had such an effect.
