this should probably be a secret but I started playing the first game and lost interest after a few hours. Plus Snake's gary stu-ness really made me laugh... it was so blatant. *dodges incoming tomatoes*

I'll probably get back to it eventually, partly because I do appreciate a nice ass.

yeah the fun part about mgs (well to me at least) is that it starts out fairly believable enough and then, without fail, goes utterly insane at some point. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO TAKE SERIOUSLY

the mantis battle is a good example of this actually YOU'LL SEE

No tomatoes - MGS is partly a comment on Gary Stu action heroes and how messed up they can get. It is a great game though.

Yep. It's all about deconstruction and subversion. It's the manly American action hero mythos as seen by a Japanese man who happens to be completely crazy. By the second one, you're approaching ideas of identity and using the medium of a game itself to explore how people are shaped by their experiences while the President of the United States zips around in his tentacled exoskeleton suit and tries to hit you with a katana.

It is the best series ever.
