"Unalive" really annoys me. One of the hosts of one of the podcasts I listen to says it, and like...there's no reason. No one is censoring the podcast based on language, the other host of the same podcast frequently says murder, suicide, killed, dismembered, death, etc. so it's not even necessary and it just drives me nuts.

Related, it took me way too long to realize what it meant when that same host said someone was "essayed". From the context, I eventually realized they were saying "S.A.", as in sexual assault, but again, the other host has no issue saying sexual assault, rape, molested, etc. It's just so unnecessary, stupid, and IDK, kind of juvenile, IMO.

Oh man I wish I'd remember 'essayed' when I was writing my answer because that is the absolute WORST, and I get why some people have to do it if you are on a platform that's going to censor or demonetize you but I HATE it. It's so unserious and it's become nails on a chalkboard to me.

I don't do tiktok (I mean I occasionally see tiktoks that friends show me, or like... compilations of tiktoks on youtube if it's cute animals or B. Dylan Hollis) so I miss a LOT of the nonsense, but there are youtubers who self-censor in increasingly annoying and stupid ways, and it makes video essays about serious subjects really hard to engage with, it makes booktube content dumber...

SA doesn't strike me as different from any other abbreviation that gets used because it's shorter. The full term is six syllables, SA'd is two. It's probably just for that and not a cute unnecessary censorship thing.

"SA" isnt the issue, "essay" is.

I think they do it on media that doesn't actually get censored to preserve their repostability value, like when they crosspost on platforms that do censor or hope people were more likely to repost snippets of their content on other sites. Still annoying though.
