friendly reminder that a fandom can just be you and your two to three besties in a discord server. Make your own fandoms
Edited ((In other words I respect this OP , just wanted to say that it's possible to make your own mini fandom spaces if people want to enjoy fandom without.. well the MAIN fandom)) 2024-03-09 22:09 (UTC)

I don't know about Repo!, but SAAAME.
I'm so happy young people are having fun with the show! And yep, I will never try to interact with this whole fandom because I value my sanity too much. The fanarts are rad, though. There are some seriously amazing artists in this fandom, wow.

I don’t think anything that gets someone through depression is time wasted.

I haven’t really checked out the show, but “animated equivalent of Repo! The Genetic Opera” might actually get me to watch it

Probably depends on whether or not the game was a "this saved me" situation or a "this is the unproductive behavior I engaged in because I was too depressed to do anything better" situation. Sounds like it's more like the latter.

I dislike TV series that I watched while having a cold/flue because I felt bad while watching it.

I live in a semi-rural area where ticks are a real problem, especially if you have pets that go outdoors. Unless your dog stays indoors all the time or remains in a well-manicured yard, you're going to want regular, effective flea/tick treatment and that stuff generally isn't cheap. Someone posted to the local FB group asking for a cheaper alternative to Seresto collars for their dogs and some people told them the truth: that all effective flea/tick meds tend to cost money, and the cheap ones don't work. But if you don't want an infestation or Lyme disease (also an issue here) then you bite the bullet and accept that it's one of the many costs of responsible pet ownership.

And then there were the kooky granola moms who were all, "I use essential oils!" and "I use cinnamon sticks and diatomaceous earth!" (The essential oil MLM ladies pop up EVERYWHERE touting essential oils as a remedy for EVERYTHING, I swear to god.) Just buy the damn meds, Debra.

I mean, it's equivalent (Repo was railing against the weight/plastic surgery/Bush-era conservancy of the 2000s, HH is pushing back against the "always pure vs indelibly unclean" school of thought of today) in that they're both musicals and have found a resonance in the youth who might feel "othered" by their peers.

Tonally they're pretty different. HH is much more of an optimistic comedy, just with a bunch of swears and plenty of heavy topics.

Yeah, you’re right. I guess for me depression goes hand in hand with suicide more often than not, so even the unproductive stuff we hide in isn’t a waste.

Buy the meds for sure! Believe it or not, there are worse things than Lyme disease that you can get from ticks. Trust me, you don’t want alpha gal syndrome.

I am pretty limited where I can go during tick season but we keep the yard well maintained so I can at least go out for short bursts. But I’m extremely sensitive to heat thanks to ticks so it’s only for really short bursts. I have all my footwear (socks, too) treated with permethrin and last year we got tick tubes. I thought it was some bogus woo thing like essential oils but they do actually work. The dogs get thoroughly checked before they’re allowed in after walks or if they’ve been in the backyard. They’re on NexGard but that will only kill what bites them. They can still carry ticks inside so each undergoes an extreme check.

That's the sensible approach when you live in an area with a tick problem. We do the same, oral meds plus multiple daily checks because the dogs still carry ticks into the house and while they're vaccinated for Lyme disease, there isn't a vaccine for humans and I absolutely do not want LD or the alpha gal syndrome.

But there's a large portion of the population here who are sort of granola mom and against chemicals and Big Pharma, so they're always advocating "natural" remedies like friggin' cinnamon sticks or bay leaves or whatever.

My work shifts feature long periods of waiting around doing nothing, so I hate that FS always seems to have boring secrets on the weekends. They are the two days of the week that my other online spaces don't update at all, so when FS doesn't have much engagement in its secrets I get bored.
