No strong feeling on the secret but that is some gorgeous art.

Hmm, haven’t read Children of Dune I’m assuming?

It should be interesting to see if/how that’s handled if Villeneuve makes a third Dune. Kinda hard to see them developing Irulan as a violently jealous wife, though of course Chani would have to be around for that to make sense.

i disagreed on the secret thread on irulan in particular (doing the bene gesserit's bidding was never going to be good or kind lolol), but also like, there are zero genuinely good or kind people here, that's about 50% of the theme imo.

So my current knowledge is more absorption from fandom spaces and listening to family/friends tell me all the background / context so I can watch the movies -- but I always thought Paul holding Irulan at arm's length made sense since she was Bene Gesserit trained. He knows what that entails considering his own mother trained him in their ways. And he has to think her agenda would always align with the sisterhood.

In the books, Irulan is similar to Jessica in that she was Bene Gesserit trained but ended up choosing Paul (in Jessica's case Leto first and then Paul) over the order. The movies changed Jessica, so I wonder if they will with Irulan as well.

But he wasn't particularly cruel to her? He didn't love her and didn't want to fuck her, sure. But he explicitly said that he doesn't care if she takes lovers as long as she doesn't try to pass any bastards as his, and she was free to use her time as she wanted.

Which was was slowly poisoning Chani and plotting to assassinate Paul.

She wasn't part of the assassination plan, she had no part in that. And while what she did to Chani wasn't justified, she wasn't trying to poison her, just make sure she couldn't have Paul's kids.

That isn't better, you do understand that it isn't better right??

She met with the group who was plotting to assassinate Paul. Maybe she didn't personally try to bomb him, but she sure didn't so anything to stop it either.

And like, you so understand that what she did to Chani was wrong, right? She was poisoning her. There's no "just" in that. Irulan didn't want her to have children and there's no way in hell I'd ever believe she didn't know the poison (yes, it was poison) had the particular side-effect of making giving birth fatal to Chani.
