It does seem like people are centering fandoms around BNF style stuff and gaining followers/viewers/etc (and then profit??) rather than just...enjoying the source and finding people to enjoy it with.

Also there seems to be a large section of people who seem to think fandom should only last as long as the show is airing or the movie is in theatres and then everyone should move on to the next thing like locusts devouring fields of crops.

Like fandom obsession is a fad. Friend, I can't control what my obsession will be and I sure as heck can't control when it will be over!

The amount of people who lament that a show is over and the fandom is dead, as if people still aren't in fandoms 40 years later... it's the "sometimes I can still hear it's voice" meme played out in real life. Like, you don't have to move on, you can stay!
