Though I do agree with Abby and I'm Jewish. She was introduced way too late for me to enjoy her at all or think of her as part of the group.

Right, and that's why people hate on her. They hate on everyone else for being too one-dimensional, but Abby is the most rounded of characters so she has to be hated for a different reason...

Who the... hell is Abby? I don't recognize her on the cover.

I think I stopped reading those books too soon... =P

There's a fandom for BSC? O_o

I loved those books so much when I was like 9 or 10. They had the little journal entry sort of things as chapter headers, right? I used to practice writing like all the different characters. Good times. Babysitters Club taught me how to forge handwriting.

Everyone has those opinions because they're all true. Sorry. Dawn is a massive hypocrite, Stacy is kind of a whore, Claudia is too dumb to breathe, etc etc. The only ones that I disagree with even a little are Jessie and Kristy - Jessie didn't have many other traits for them to talk about, and Kristy probably was a dyke, but at the very least, she was a friggin cult leader.

So... sorry that you disagree with the majority, I guess.

To be fair about Jessi, the books put WAY too much emphasis on her being the token black when she was so much more. :/ Talented dancer, loyal friend, good babysitter. But no, it was all about her being The Token in the narrative.

I actually blame the writers for flanderizing everyone after a certain point, hence giving them these reputations among the fans.

ROFL! This has a fandom? Hahaha, that's hilarious!! I used to read these books when I was in late elementary school/junior high like 12+ years ago! I'm surprised that people still read them. Are there even new books still being written? LOL, I find this too amusing!

That being said...if you like the books and you want to become involved in the fandom, you should still go for it! Who cares if you don't necessarily agree? I was hardcore into that series as a kid and I don't share most of those opinions myself :).

Actually I love the BSC fandom for it's "mock the shit out of it" viewpoint. I loved the BSC. I had tons of books and I read them over and over. I was a huge fan and I have fine fuzzy nostalgic memories. But the books are ridiculous. No thirteen year old acts like that, and certainly no eleven year old. I'm thirty and I doubt I'm that mature.

However if you ever want to talk about the books and characters in a "friendlier manner" feel free to PM me. It'd be fun to talk with a fan. Don't worry, I won't rush back here and reveal your identity I promise.

Loved that series.

I've found that it's more good-natured ribbing and poking fun than militant ZOMG HATE. For example, I had a major girlcrush on Dawn when I was, like, eight, but looking back at her now...she is kind of a hypocrite and a stereotype. But she was still a big part of my childhood and I love her anyway. Same logic can be applied to any of the characters.

...and really, it goes both ways. All my BSC-reading friends and I hated Janine back in the day, but looking back at her now, she seems like one of the cooler characters.

bsc_snark. For some reason, its easier for me to mock of the Sweet Valley series...

I dunno, I think it's kind of hilarious. Especially since I read those books for YEARS and did not see the fail. At all. For years.
