That's kindof like me, sorta. I LOVE Snape as a character. He's a really well developed character and stuff. As a person? I HATE him. He's such a jerk.

Haha, Dumbles. XD I agree though, I like how she showed that Dumbledore actually had flaws and the like. Well-written flaws make for a good character.

Fellow Snape-hater here. I never had a teacher like that myself, but his appalling treatment of students is the deal-breaker for me with Snape no matter how allegedly brave or important his espionage work was. I have some similar issues with Dumbledore by the end of the series too.

I loathe him too. Honestly, he was such a nasty teacher(and aside from his treatment of Neville, I HATED how he projected his hate for James onto Harry) that no matter how much characterization he got, I couldn't stand the man.

Besides, his obsession with Lily was disturbing and I shudder to think what things would be like if Harry was a girl

Well, although Snape is an asshole, the way that Hermoine always acts in class is annoying (even if she isn't necessarily trying to show off), and reminds me of the know-it-all straight A student type that I always loathed. GIVE SOMEONE ELSE IN THE CLASS A CHANCE TO ANSWER FOR ONCE. Also, you're not necessarily helping anyone else learn that way. You're only succeeding in making others feel like idiots, not to mention inviting resentment from everyone else in the class.

It was very rare that I had a teacher/professor who actually reacted to that kind of student the way that Snape does, and to be honest, I think Hermoine types deserve it every once in awhile. It doesn't hurt to be knocked down a few pegs.

This comment should be a secret of its own considering that I usually was the Hermoine type of student in most of my classes.

Just because Snape was a harsh teacher, doesn't mean eleven-through-thirteen Hermione wasn't annoying. Remember the early books? Always jumping at the chance to show off how much smarter she was than everyone else, and her worst fear was failing class? Yeah, she had some growing up to do...
