But... don't the house elves LIKE being bossed around? With the exception of Dobby...

Forgive me, since I haven't read the books in a while. But IIRC they LIKE being servants. I mean, so long as they're not abused and the like I don't see why it's a problem. They're nonhuman, which means they don't think the same way humans do, and for some reason they LIKE being slaves. A human being a slave is not cool in the slightest, but house elves LIKE it. Why is that a problem?

I think it's more a thing of "enslaving sentient beings", really.

I mean, I kind of agree with you. They... enjoy doing labour for humans, they think things like wages and such are... what's the word, offensive and improper and insulting, really. And Hermione's "Oh, you poor uneducated little things, let me tell you how to live" thing kind of annoys me. But at the same time, the fact that they are treated by dirt by many wizarding houses is kind of... well.

If I were in HP-world, I'd be more interested in laws getting passed to stop them from being abused, and have them be treated like actual sentient beings --- I wouldn't be quite as gung-ho for Hermione's idea of forcing them into asking for wages and trying to be all human-servant-y. :/

Yeah... they shouldn't be treated like dirt, but I don't think they should stop being servants or whatever. oO;
