Okay, but this applies to literally every ship ever. The bigger the ship, the more obvious it is, but honestly, I've yet to find a a ship with even a modest-size fandom following that doesn't suffer from this.

Too true, and I think the longer you're in a fandon the more you notice it, or at least I do and when the characters stop feeling like the canon-counterparts in all the fic is when I tend to leave.
